Shopping for Vintage cars:

1.  Shop for vintage cars by attending car shows and cruise in's.  Look on internet sites that specialize in the model you are looking for.  We have a classified page on our web site if you want to look locally, or check out http://www.thesamba.com/vw/  if you want to expand your search.  Our club takes an interest in Volkswagens, and can give you some assistance in determining the collectibility of the car.

2.  Check for obvious repairs the car may need.  The Old Fort VW Club can give you contacts for finding those hard to find replacement parts.  If prior work was done, make sure the previous owner completed all of the work properly.  A poorly done restoration may complicate your new repairs.

3.  Join our club, and have your car checked by an expert.  We can give you an opinion about the car you are thinking about purchasing.  Routine repairs can be costly;
our members are always available to help with your questions, and can give you
advise on how to fix your car.

4.  Pay a fair price for your vintage car.  You can check the going price for your model
by searching the internet, or ask one of our members, most have experience about the
amount to pay for a vehicle.  Just bring us a picture and details about it's present condition.

5.  Make sure you have a dry ventilated space to store your car.  Vintage cars require a
dry environment, moisture can promote rust.

6.  Insure your vintage car.  Most insurance companies have rates for antique automobiles.

7.  Are you ready to invest your time and energy in a car that you probably won't make
money on?  Restoring vintage automobiles is a hobby, it requires having enough time in your schedule, and enough money in your wallet to complete the project.

A Volkswagen is a great car to restore.  The cost of restoration is lower than most
other classic cars, or hot rods.  Fall is a good time to start looking for a project car,
owners may not have a place to store their car for the winter.
